Use products.ai over MCP in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or any MCP client: what the server gives your AI, how to get your MCP URL, and a config example.
Preview: products.ai over MCP opens by request. This page describes how it works at launch, and some details can still change before then.
You use products.ai over MCP by adding your MCP URL to an AI app that supports MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. The URL comes with access, which you request. Then you ask your AI in plain words, and it can call products.ai for one pick, the reasons behind it and offers from real shops.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside tools and data. The specification and its docs are public at modelcontextprotocol.io.
It has two sides. A provider runs an MCP server that describes its tools. An AI app that speaks the protocol, the MCP client, connects to that server and calls a tool when your question needs one. Because the standard is shared, one products.ai connection works across different assistants.
What does the products.ai MCP server give your AI?
The same data as products.ai chat, as results your AI can read and quote:
- One pick that fits what you asked, and why it fits.
- A one-line why not for each alternative.
- Where to buy: a shop that has the product in stock and delivers to you, with its price, the delivery time and the date the shop listed it.
- The exact product, matched by barcode (GTIN), so two models one digit apart don't get mixed up.
Shops in your country come first, drawn from 448 merchants in 20 countries and 11 currencies. Your AI still writes the reply itself, so any price it quotes should come from those listed offers, not from its memory. Read the report explains each part of an answer.
How do you get your MCP URL?
You request access, and your MCP URL comes with it. A person in Amsterdam reads every request.
- Open the access form on the home page.
- Fill in your work email and your company or project.
- Under "I'm interested in", choose Connect my AI.
- Say what you're building. It's optional, but one concrete line tells us far more than an empty box.
- Press Request access. Your email app opens with a message to [email protected] already filled in. Nothing is sent until you press send.
Or email [email protected] directly.
What does an MCP client config look like?
Clients that read a config file use a shape like this one, though key names can differ per client. Your real URL arrives with access.
{
"mcpServers": {
"products-ai": {
"url": "<sent with access>"
}
}
}
products-ai is the name your client shows for the server. url is where your MCP URL goes.
Setup differs per platform. We don't publish click-by-click steps for other companies' apps, because their menus change between versions. Broadly, you add the URL to a config file like this one, paste it into the app's settings, or install an extension or connector where your platform offers one. Connect your AI covers those options.
Tip: Keep your MCP URL out of public code and screenshots. It comes with your access, and the agreement for that access sets who may use it.
What can you ask once it's connected?
Ask the way you'd ask a friend who knows the shops: what it's for, your budget and what you can't do without. Your AI decides when to call products.ai. A few examples:
- "Noise-cancelling headphones under €300 for travel?"
- "Compare the Sony WH-1000XM5 with the Sennheiser Momentum 4 for flights."
- "Which shop should I buy the Bose QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) in violet from?"
- "Is the silver De'Longhi Magnifica S the same machine as the black one?"
For the first question, the Sony WH-1000XM5 comes back as the best fit for flights, with bol.com as the place to buy it: €226,99, in stock and delivered in 1–2 days. More on phrasing in Ask a good question.
What is still open before launch?
A few details are settled only at launch, so this page stays general about them:
- Tool names and fields. The ones in the API overview are illustrative until the API docs ship.
- Price. In your AI is by request, not a public list price. Chat has its own plans, in Plans and billing.
- Clients. It works in any MCP client. If yours speaks MCP but isn't named here, say so in your request.
