Your data and privacy

How products.ai handles your data and privacy: no analytics or ad cookies, clicks to shops stored with a hashed IP, and how to use your GDPR rights.

products.ai collects very little about you. The website runs without analytics or advertising cookies, and beyond standard server logs, the only record we keep of a visit is a click to a shop, with your IP address stored as a hash. With a products.ai chat account we also keep your account and your conversations. This page sums up our Privacy Policy in plain terms. If the two ever differ, the policy is what counts.

What does products.ai collect when you browse?

Only what a server needs to send you a page: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and your browser and device type. Our server keeps this in server logs, which we use to keep the site running and to spot attacks.

Everything else stays out:

  • No third parties on the page. Pages, fonts and images come from our own server. There are no Google Fonts, analytics tools, tracking pixels or social media widgets, so no advertising company learns that you visited. One exception: if you sign in to products.ai chat with Google, your profile photo in the chat comes from Google's servers.
  • Only the cookies we need. Ordinary pages set no cookies. Only products.ai chat, its sign-in pages and your language choice do: those cookies keep you signed in, make a form work or remember a choice you made yourself, so the law does not ask for your consent.
Cookie What it does
Language choice Remembers the language you picked, so products.ai opens in it next time.
Session cookies (chat and sign-in pages only) Keep you signed in while you use the chat, and keep a form together between sending it and seeing the result. Their contents are encrypted and stay in your browser.
Stay signed in (chat only) Keeps you signed in on this browser until you log out, so you don't need a new sign-in link every visit.
Security (CSRF) token (chat and sign-in pages only) Stops another website from submitting a form or a question on this site in your name.

What is stored when you click through to a shop?

A click record: the product, the shop and the time, with your IP address stored as a hash (a one-way code), never in readable form.

Many of our links to shops are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking, the shop may pay us a commission through a network such as Awin. The record lets us match each commission to its click and filter out bots and fake clicks. The hash shows us that many clicks came from one address without keeping the address itself.

On the shop's site, the shop and the affiliate network may set their own cookies, and their privacy policies apply. See Affiliate links.

What does products.ai chat store?

Preview: products.ai chat is new. This section describes what it stores at launch.

Your account and what you ask. There is no password: you sign in on the sign-up page with Google, or with a link we email you that works for 15 minutes and only once.

  • Account data: your email address, when you signed up and last signed in. If you sign in with Google, also the name and profile photo Google shares with us.
  • Your plan: free or Beast mode, and when you asked for Beast mode. Payment isn't open yet; a payment provider, named in the policy before payments open, will handle it.
  • Your questions and conversations: what you ask Pius Bot and what it answers, saved in your account so only you see them in your chat list. AI model providers process your questions so Pius can write its answers; the full policy explains where.
  • Sign-in links: the address each link went to and your IP address as a hash, to stop misuse. The link itself is stored only as a hash, so a copy of our records signs nobody in.

Pius needs nothing about your health, religion or politics to find you good headphones, so leave that out of your questions.

What happens when you use the access form or email us?

Nothing reaches us until you press send. The form at /#access opens your own email app with a message to [email protected] filled in. We then receive what you send, like any other email.

How do you use your privacy rights?

Email [email protected]. Under the GDPR you can ask us to:

  • show you the data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct it, or delete it unless the law makes us keep it;
  • pause using it, or stop using it where we rely on our legitimate interest;
  • send you the data you gave us in a machine-readable format.

It is free, and we answer within one month. We may first ask you to confirm who you are, for example by writing from the email address on your account. Click records hold only a hashed IP address, so we usually cannot find them by your name or email; if you want us to search them, say so and we will tell you what we need.

If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or to the authority in the EU country where you live or work.

Where is the full privacy policy?

At /privacy. It names the company behind products.ai (Birds B.V. in Amsterdam), the processors we work with, the legal basis for each use and how long we keep each kind of data. Every shop you click through to has its own policy.
